Tide Line Stories

Series of wall sculptures inspired by the tide line on the beach. Erwin scours the beach for material as wood, plastics, textile and rubber that wash ashore and are often considered waste. He transforms these materials and makes compositions that show the beauty of being weathered by the sea.

This series of wall sculptures is inspired by the tide line on the beach. Made of materials as wood, plastic, textile and rubber that wash ashore and are often considered waste.

Erwin scours the beach to compose an interesting selection of washed ashore materials. He saws, sands, cuts, shears and pastes these materials to transform them into expressive materials that show the beauty of being weathered by the sea.

The compositions with these materials tell stories about re-use, sea, wind, sand, salt, decay, contrast and color. Daylight plays with the sculptures, during the day the accents and depth change. These stories arise while composing the sculptures, which is done intuitively.

Every sculpture has made a journey from the sea to the studio. Erwin has selected and transformed all materials by hand and carefully composed the sculptures, which makes every one of them unique.
